Event #75 Wrap Up

Another fantastic night at Coastal Board Gamers. With such a wide variety of games played there was something for everyone. Here is what made it to the table this event:

It was a quieter night this event as some of our louder members were absent and Penny had lost her voice! 🤣 I was worried how long Penny would survive but she made it through the night, including teaching a full table, It’s a Wonderful World. Well done, Penny.

And now here is Belinda’s report on the Near & Far campaign:

Near & Far Campaign Session 1 Event #75 5-8-23

Strange creatures with yellow and red eyes, objects with blinking lights, duels in town for resources, encounters with the Red King and rumours of Nizra the Witch were all featured in this first session of the campaign.

Riza (Kathryn) and Rin (David) both chose fighting tactics which saw Kathryn defeating several nasty bandits and David missing turns in dishonourable duels.

Shardling (Jared) left town early and began completing quests and gaining resources, while Vera (Belinda) focussed on gaining reputation and expensive artifacts.

Near and Far campaign

In the end it was Jared who won resoundingly by claiming several trade routes and a Mystics Chief. Will our players change tactics? What will happen as players purchase their special talents? Who gets closer to discovering the lost city? Stay tuned for the next exciting session!

Well sounds like you all had a lot of fun! Thanks for the report Belinda, we look forward to the next instalment.

GMT COIN Game Introduction

Now I would like to spend a minute to share a little bit about a series of games not many of our attendees will know about. Thank you Mike for introducing me to these at Meeple Escape 2023.

We had our first GMT Coin game make it to a table this event. Coin games have an interesting twist on action election and area control. The action selection part of the game is based around a small table somewhere on the board.

All Coin games use a variation or twist on this table. In short, a card is drawn to determine turn order but only 2 players may take actions for the round normally. The choice of what actions you may take are limited to a Basic Action, a Basic Action and a Special Action, an Event (what is on the card) or to Pass.

Depending on what the first player chooses will determine what the second player may do. If Player 1 chooses to do the Event, then the Second player may only choose to do a Basic Action and a Special Action, or Pass. If the First player chooses to do a Basic Action, then the second player can also do a Basic Action but limited to only once.

People Power GMT Coin

Through this Coin Games can simulate political struggles that have happened in our recent history. People Power: Insurgency Philippines 1981-1986 is a 3 player version of this based on the Political Struggle in 80’s. Mechanisms are tailored for each political power that simulate both the way individuals and political parties interacted.

If complex, layered choices are something you find interesting in board games the Coin action selection mechanism is a wonderful set of levers to pull.

Our next event will be on the 19th of August Click Here to find out more. Come along and have a game!
