We had a great learn-to-play session of Skull, where players bluffed their way to victory or disaster, in this classic game of deception. Meanwhile, a learning game of Brass: Lancashire, Hosted by Lynden M, saw players getting to grips with industrial strategy and cutthroat competition. Lyndon then had a night of teaching several games.

[LYNDEN REORT]
My review on last weeks gaming. I really do enjoy teaching people how to play games. The event started with Brass Lancashire, at least 1 person did not know how to play. Then after dinner we were teaching someone how to play poker. Then teaching people how to play Canvas.
To finish the night teaching Saboteur. Saboteur was the game we ended the night on. Players included David (Chloe and Aimee) who I met for the first time and myself. David as the saboteur won the first round, in the second round I did my best as the saboteur to win. The minors won the final round. I think it is fun to be the saboteur, even though it is hard when there is only one saboteur in the 4-player game, the fun bit was when I caused a cave in on an important part of the mine fairly late in the round hoping they would not suspect me.
A highlight of the night was the second-to-last game of the Terraforming Mars campaign, with tensions running high as players vied for control of the red planet. Over at another table, we saw two thrilling games of Root, filled with woodland warfare and strategic alliances.
[JIMMY REPORT]
Tonight me, Belinda, Mel & Cliff played game 5 of 6 of the Terraforming Mars Progressive Campaign. This time around we introduced the Colonies expansion. 6 different moons came into play, each providing different resources that accumulated every generation until someone sent out a trade fleet to pick up said resources. You could also establish colonies on the moons that gave the owner resources whenever someone traded there.
The moons we had in play were Triton (titanium), Ceres (steel), Pluto (card draw), Callisto (energy), Miranda (animals) & Titan (floaters).
Tonight’s results were as follows:
1st : Jim (blue) : Valley Trust (merged with Tharsis Republic) : 111 TR 2nd : Mel (yellow) : Manutech : 80 TR 3rd : Cliff (green) : Nirgal Enterprises : 78 TR 4th : Belinda (black) : Ecoline : 65 TR DNP : Lynette (red) : given a averaged score of 84 TR Milestones claimed: Manager (first to place 3 unique tiles) : Mel Pioneer (first to establish 3 colonies) : Jim Hoverlord (first to have 7 floater resources on cards) : Jim Awards won: Suburbian (most tiles on edge of map) : 1st Cliff (5 TR) : 2nd Belinda (2 TR) Incorporator (most cards played of 10 MC or less) : 1st Jim (5 TR) : 2nd Mel & Cliff (2 TR) Metropolist (most city tiles played) : 1st Jim (5 TR) : 2nd Belinda (2 TR)
In this game everyone delved into the Colonies expansion hard. Colonies popped up everywhere on the moons and trade fleets were constantly being sent out to pick up the resources. Mel built up a good engine with her Manutech corporation, continually getting free resources whenever she increased her production. Cliff lent in hard on establishing his tiles all around the edge of the map. Belinda built up an engine based on solid plant & animal production, fitting in well with the Ecoline ethos and I dabbled in symbiotic cards feeding microbe resources into other cards, along with heavy rebates on city building.
Colonies is one of my favourite expansions to Terraforming Mars and I thoroughly enjoyed this game, as I’m sure the others did too. It was a pity that Lynette couldn’t make this game, but that’s ok, we’ll get back together on Sat 1 Feb 25 for the conclusion of the campaign and handing out of trophies. Game 6 will include the expert expansion Turmoil. This will involve a whole bunch of political dramas and events on Mars and back on Earth, that will make it very difficult for everyone to gain TR.

As always, it was great to see familiar faces and welcome new ones. If you missed out, don’t worry there’s always next time! Join us at our next event on February 1st and be part of the fun.
Also on February 1st tickets to Meeple Escape will launch! Keep an eye out and make sure to secure your place at THE board gaming weekend on the north west coast!
